Default Why do Slugs dissolve in Salt

I am in 2nd grade. I put salt on a slug the other day and it dissolved. Now I want to do a Science Fair Project on this but do not know the reason. Can the Mad Scientist explain this to me?

Default maybe

Maybe because of the sodium chloride or the acid hydrogen. It probaly can't stand the acid in salt which causes it to start melting like regular acids would cause it to.I'm not positive but that is what my opinion is.maybe one of the others can give you a positive answer.

Talking Well

That is a good theory, T. Mine would be that the salt gets into the notches that they breathe out of, which would make them stop getting slimy, and the slime would dissapear, and the slug would shrivel. I don't really know, that is a guess in the wind!

Default Salt

It is because the salt dehydrates the slime and other liquids in the slugs body. Although I could never do that to anything, guilty mind issues.

Thumbs up Dry slug

I read once in a book that salt basically turns the poor slug into a prune. I use to do that to slugs when I was smaller and they would dry out and I would bury them because I felt guilty afterwards.
