Cool "build a boat" to test buoyancy experiment needed

My son is in third grade and he has a project on buoyancy he has to complete. We are in need of a "boat" made from items found at home that measures no larger than 1 foot by 1 foot and can successfully carry cargo.
Any ideas? Thanks!
