Cool sun damage to your skin!!!

i once read an article on a science fair project on how the sun can damage your skin it was very cool.
you use hotdogs (cause they have similar skin on them) and place them under uv lights or the sun until they get cooked .
has anyone read this and can you help us figure it out
we live in the high desert and i thought this would be great for my 2nd grader to use.
