Smile Bio Bottle - Ecosystems

I'm doing a project on ecosystems. We have two 2-liter bottles and seal them together. The top half is terrestrial, and the bottom half is aquatic. This experiment will last for about 2 weeks, and nothing can die during that time. (The top half of the terrestrial bottle is cut, so air can move about?) We also have to have at least two trophic levels (sadly does not include decomposers for this lab).
I know that I should get water from ponds or freshwater lakes (because tap water contains chemicals that KILLS life), and have some soil, some grass, and maybe worms. What else can you recommend that will survive during 2 weeks' time that won't die?
Thank you!!
