Default Need Project Idea for 5th grader- plz help!

I am trying to help my son who is in 5th grade find an idea for a science project. I have helped him in the past but our ideas were not that original. He is a GATE student (gifted) and we need something more original.

He needs to a project that includes the scientific method. We would like something that not everyone in the world is doing i.e popcorn kernals, electromagnets, etc.

He is interested in food, water, oceans, clouds as a project. We would consider other ideas if they are original.

We had considered a project on whether not water can be split into oxygen and hydrogen but investigating it we have learned that somehow chlorine gas is part of the result instead of oxygen..we dont even know how we would prove that or even explain it.

PLz help!!!!!

Seeing he is interested in clouds, you could do a project called: "Cloud in a Bottle." I'm not exactly sure how to conduct this experiment, but I've never seen anyone do it. You could just try looking up this experiment on google, or other search engines.

The cost of the project is lower than $15, so you don't have to worry about the cost.

I hope that I've helped you.

Good luck in searching for the right science project!!!
PM me if you have a question.

Its not totally original but... Does music have an effect on persons pulse. you can use jazz classical and rock.

if you like animals you can test, What tye of cheese do mice prefer. Test it by putting three types of cheese (cheddar, swiss, and munster.) in a cage with the mouse and record which does it go to eat the most of. Remember to tes.t it 3 times to make sure. If you don't have an idea for the hypothesys you can put i think the mouse will like the cheddar the most. I think you have to test it with three mice to be sure though. You can try this with differant animals and differant foods. For instance what tye of dogfood do dogs prefer the most?
