I many be able to help you because i have been playing softball for 4 years and this year will be my 5th. You could see if the weight of the bat or ball affects how far the ball gets hit. Or, you could see if the type of glove affects player performance.

I don't think you can measure a "Player's Performance," You would have to change you hypothesis to something more specific like, "Does the players brand of glove affect the length at which a ball is thrown" Then you would also have to have different levels of players throw, and different age group. That would be a very difficult project, do you think you have enough subjects, time, ability?

First of all, see above second of all, you should probably specify your hypothesis to, "Does the weight of the bat or ball affects how far the ball gets hit by players between the ages of 7 to 13 with three years experince?"

Default Specific Hypotheses

Yes, BroadwayBaby is absolutely correct. You should always have a specific hypothesis. That way, it can be proven via experiment results. Also if it's too wide, you'll need to conduct too many experiments to prove your hypothesis.

For an example of how to narrow down your hypothesis, consider the following:

Hypothesis #1
"Wearing gloves will cause a softball to travel further when hit"

Hypothesis #2
"Wearing padded boxing gloves made of stiff material will cause a softball to travel further when hit"

If you pick Hypothesis#1, you will have to conduct experiments with all sorts of gloves (gardening gloves made of cloth, cleaner's gloves made of rubber, boxing gloves etc..) Otherwise, your experiment will be incomplete and you will not be able to confidently say that "wearing gloves cause a softball to travel further".

If you pick Hypothesis #2, your job becomes much easier!

Imagine the amount of work that you'll save yourself!

as for dogs, you could see which breeds of dogs respond better to different commands or sounds. Or, you could see how different dog's hair acts toward different shampoos.

Specify your hypothesis w/ the dog thing. Doe's the shampoo effect the coloring of the hair, the thickness, the shine, Does the results match the advertisement? ETC
