Default HELP PLEASE. Need direction with LEACHING PROJECT

My 8th grade son wants to do a project involving leaching chemicals. I have not had any luck trying to help him. I can only assume that leaching test have to be conducted in a lab. He has 2 ideas...leaching of chemicals into foods cooked in certain types of containers or leaching of chemicals (plastics additives) that leach into water sources. Any ideas how we can set up help with this experiment and the labs that may help us.
Thanks

Yes, I think it will be difficult to detect the leaching of chemicals without sending samples off to a lab. One thing that may be do-able is to look at the effect of various liquids on styrofoam cups. Soda, hot tea, coffee, water, juice, lemon juice, each in a styrofoam cup for a few days. Keep track of any changes to the cup each day. If the liquids dissolve the styrofoam cup, there should be a visual difference. You could also measure the weight of the cup without the liquid, before and after the experiment. Be sure not to drink from the styrofoam cup during the experiment!
