Default Wobble Detector

Hi,
I'm helping my daughter with her Wobble Detector, but there seems to be connection problems. What kind of battery should we use? We were told we need stiff wire and covered wire (with bare ends). The stiff wire is copper but the other wire isn't. Is this the problem?

Also, the instructions say "using one piece of covered wire, connect one end of the stiff wire to the battery." The stiff wire has been attached to a jar lid with modeling clay. So should the bare end of the covered wire just be stuck in the clay with the stiff wire? Should it be wrapped around? Does it have to be on the end of the stiff wire?

This project seems to be deceptively simple! Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Prezmo
