From what I know, rusting is caused by the metal reacting with the oxygen in the air.

Iron is a metal, so you'll need another metal to test which metal rusts better. Also, do you know stainless steel means it rusts less? So research into stainlses steel and why does it rust less? Actually, paint isn't just to make everything look pretty. Paint is used to protect the metal from meeting with the air so the metal won't rust. However, I'm not sure the effect of an liquid on the rate of rusting. You should research into that.

Rusting is a slow process what you cannot do in a day or two, so start your experiment as soon as possible and don't wait until the last day.

Good luck and update us!

I've realized you need answer with the liquid. I don't know how much you know about liquid's effect on rusting. But here's what I suggest. You want a quick and easy experiment. So whatever makes your metals rust quicker, be it water or oil. If leaving it in liquid is quicker than dipping it, use that. If water is quicker than oil, use that. But then you'll have to research, which I cannot help you with.
