Investigatory? I don't know about that. But I have an idea.

You can test Hess' Law. Hess' Law states that the sum of the energy released by two reactions is the same as if you perform the two reactions together. For example, reaction one, let's say dissolving NaOH into water, releases x calories. reaction two, let's say already dissolved NaOH reaction with HCl releases y calories. Let's say in reaction three, you put undissolved NaOH in HCl, then the NaOH will dissolve, then reaction with HCl. So the energy released by reaction three will have to equal the sum of the energies released by reaction one and two if Hess' Law is true.

With this, you'll need to understand the concept of a calorimeter. With simple reactions such as these, all you'll need for a calorimeter is a styrofoam cup and a thermometer.

Good luck!
