Question need help immediately !

I really need help my my science fair project. I have a purpose which is to determine if sulfur decreases the amount of ph in soil better than sulfate would. But the problem is that I dont know who to conduct it and how to do the scientific method. Like what materials should I use?,etc.

Default Soil science fair project

You'll need the following materials:

pH kit or probe
Soil
Sulfur
Sulfate (please tell me what sort of sulphate compound you were thinking of using - eg. sulfuric acid?)
6 Beakers
Distilled water
Stirrer
Spade

Your hypothesis should be "Sulfur causes soil to be have a lower pH level than Sulfate". Then, you should state why you think this is so.

Next, you should conduct your experiment, which could be as simple as dissolving a fixed concentration of sulfur in distilled water. Pour it into a fixed amount of soil and mix the soil with your spade. Do this again for another sample of soil, using a different concentration of sulfur solution. And again for third sample.

Now prepare similar samples, of sulfate solution (using the same 3 levels of concentration), and pour them into the 3 soil samples. Altogether, you'll have 3 samples of soil containing sulfur of different levels of concentration, plus another 3 samples of soil containing the sulphate (at the 3 corresponding levels of concentration).

Leave all samples for 48 hours, then measure their pH level using the pH probe. If you're using a pH kit that requires the soil to be mixed with some water, use your beakers and distilled water to do so.

Record your findings - altogether you should have 3 pH readings for the soil with sulfur, and another 3 readings for the soil containing the sulfate compound. Tell us your results!

Default Please remember to state your grade

ScienceDiana, it would be helpful to state your grade in the TITLE of your question/thread so we can help you more effectively.
