Question Fly Question

Hi people, i hope my title doesn't disgust people from reading my topic. As the title says, I'm doing my science fair project about flies. However, I couldn't find any information about the flies' sense of smell or what parts of the body uses the sense of smell on web pages. Can anyone help me find some links?

Red face Sorry!

I apologize after further looking at your post. I thought you were doing a project on ALL of a flies senses. I'll try to get you some links to a fly's sense of smell and the body parts that help.

Thank you for your time. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

This is a page to a lot of professional text on fruitfly olfactory (scent).

I think you chose a not so fitting topic with flies. Smell is directed by the olfactory bulbs at the base of the brain. If you think about how small a fly's brain is, and imagine 1/20th the size of the brain, that's how big a fly's olfactory bulb is.

What I suggest is, use different spices and see how flies react to those. See what scents are in the spices, and see how the flies react (attract, repel, kill.) Start with pepper, garlic, clives, etc.
