You're talking about a Rube Goldberg machine?

Well, first of all, you have to investigate the simple machines. Work consists of two components: distance and energy. I don't know how to phrase it in a better way, but carrying a 10 lb box for 1 mile vs. carrying a 5 lb box for 2 miles. So these are the two components of work. A simple machine does not change the amount of work, but changes the ratio between these two. For example, a ramp up into a truck increases the distance, but decreases the energy needed to go through the distance. I suggest you look at the functions of each simple machine, like a ramp, a pulley, a lever, etc. Then plan to use at least three of these. Then look at the tools you have, look around the house, and choose something you'd like to perform. Good luck!
