1) Remember that state laws have many regulations about using vertebrates in experiments, so if you're going to design an experiment, make sure you don't have any animal in them.

2) Try listing the problems cats may have, and research on them. Look at the diseases (do cats get scurvey?), diets, etc. And propose an experiment focusing on these that DO NOT INVOLVE A CAT. Or, use that list to develop an instrument/tool to help cats (engineering). Perhaps a special lease.

I've also heard that there are special chips that are implanted in cats/dogs at birth, and therefore if they get lost, you go find the pet store owner and track down the chip. Check that out.

Also, if you love animals, perhaps you want to focus on the environment. The environment is easier to do. If you have a river near you, you can monitor the water and check the impacts on the water with microorganisms, fish, and other wildlife. Also, if you want to look at the environment, check out pollution, or find a place where you can investigate both environment and animals.

Good luck!

If you really like cats so much, why don't you make a project on 'cat language'. What do they really mean when they mew? Their interaction with humans... I looked up a site. I have provided a link and a jist of what you'll find there.. All the best!

Can cats talk? Many cat owners would like to think so and some even claim that their cats speak a number of recognisable words. A Brazilian cat takes claims one step further by apparently being able to sing a number of well known songs while the Fortean Times carried a report of a cat which speaks several words in Turkish and suggested, with tongue firmly in cheek, that the reason many owners cannot understand their cats is because the cats are speaking Turkish. But before cat-owners rush out for phrase books, are these cats really speaking or are their owners just talking turkey?

Mrs. Newton cried, 'Well deary me!
That could've caused an injury'.
But clever Isaac alone could see,
The situation's true gravity.

Ok, I found another good link -

http://www.xmission.com/~emailbox/whycat.htm

It deals with why cats behave the way they do?
