Default Hypothosis?

Ok it has been a very long time scince I had to do a project. My step son is in 3rd grade and we did a project on fossils that I found on this site. Our only stumbling block is the hypothosis, not sure what to write? The hypothosis is the educated guess, correct? Any ideas?
Thank you,
Once confused parent

Well, I'm not exactlty sure what he needs for third grade. However, I would do it(I'm in high school), you would have to do a few more tests. Such as, adding something to mixture of plaster that would be found in nature, such as an excess amount of water, or adding ground up rocks or branches. Your problem would then be:What different factors affect fossil formation. Your hypothesis would be whatever factor you would believe to have the best affect: I believe ground up plant branches will result in a clearer fossils, while excess water will result in an unclear fossil. Or, probably simpler, you could put the leaf in the plaster and immediately take it out-with the jelly- and see if that results in any changes. Then your problem would be: Does an increased time that the object portrayed in the fossil is in that plaster result in a clearer fossil? and your hypothesis would be:I believe that a prolonged period of time would result in a clearer fossil, or a shorter period of time, whihc ever you believe to be correct?

I may have been a little vague, sorry.
