Smile Water on the brain

I'm in 8th grade and have to do a science fair project soon. A little over 2 years ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The tumor has given me acquired hydrocephalus (water on the brain). I had a shunt put in (a tube that goes into my brain and lets the fluid drain into my abdomen) to keep the pressure from building in my brain. I think it would be cool to do a project related to a shunt/hydrocephalus, but I have know idea where to start. Any ideas anyone?

Default Hydrocephalus Science Fair Project

Dear hydro_girl

Thank you for sharing your plight with us. We hope the very best for your health.

As for ideas for a science project involving shunts, perhaps you could investigate into the different sorts of material used to make shunts, and which of these materials are more effective (in terms of durability, etc.)

From what I gather, shunts are usually made of silicon. You could investigate the different types of silicon used, and ascertain is more durable.

You could also do some research to ascertain how shunts are normally designed. If you find that there are at least 2 common types of shunts, then you can follow through by trying to find out which of these is more effective, durable etc.

PS: You should first check with your teacher and parents to see if the topic is suitable/appropriate.

I wouldn't be able to live through that! Wow! You are my hero! You are seeming to have dealt with this problem amazingly and quite frankly, I think you are definitely an amazing role-model for other kids that have this problem!

You have been through a lot, I must Admitt. Fos some starters, as what the mad scentist did say, find out what materials are needed to make shunts and Also why don't you do a little more reasherch on the tumor.
