Lightbulb idea:chapstick and rose petals

This project is probably in the 6-8 grade level although it would work for 4th and 5th graders too. Have you seen the chapstick ad where they are talking about how Chapstick preserves rose petals? Well thats the idea of this experiment. Get a rose (healthy, living) and take several petals off. Now spread different kinds of chapsticks/lipbalms on each one (ex: burts bees, Chapstick orginal, Lipsmackers) don't put lip balm on one petal. Each day record what the petals look like, which one dries up the fastest etc. Make sure you know which petal is which at all times. Hope this is helpful
