winning isn't everything! remember you shouldn't enter the science fair just to win,(even though that is part of it) you should be happy to research something and have fun!!

Seriously, the project isn't about winning. When you do it for fun, and you enjoy it, and you challenge yourself because you enjoy it, you would naturally win. But it takes lots of work. There's no need to win science projects if you're not interested in science. If you are, then start cracking the books with tons of research. Then crack your head with lots of experiment problems. But the basis of a good science project isn't asking for a list of good science fair projects, because those are overdone. It is starting with what you're interested in, cracking the books, and really develop your own experimental procedures and problems with work work work.

Are you testing how different substances affect the freezing point of water? Or are you testing for the freezing point of water (which is 0 degrees Celsuis, by the way?)

What melts ice? Salts. Any salt, including table salt. As for how fast, it's not really a fast factor. Salts lower the melting point, which is why it melts. So if you put more, it melts quicker. Also, different salts have different melting speeds. You should google it and research about it.
