Default Need Help with "Making Sparks"

My son and I decided to use Reeko's Mad Scientist Experiment "Making Sparks" in which we create an electrophorus using a pie plate, a wool rag and a styrofoam plate. We can't get it to work properly. First of all, I couldn't find styrofoam plates anywhere. Only "foam" plates. So I found a styrofoam disc (in floral section). Secondly, the pie plates are the disposable aluminum kind. Also, I did not have a "wool rag" so I used a wool sweater.
HELP! We need this expirement to work! Do I have to find "styrofoam plates?" Where can I find it?
Right now we are barely getting a spark, no matter how long we rub. The link to the science experiment:

PLEASE HELP! I can be e-mailed at akeller@bnceng.com

this is some information i found, it might help a lot. http://www.exo.net/~pauld/summer_institute/summer_day14electrostatic/Electrophorus.html

Aluminum pie plate 20 cm (8) in diameter or larger, but not larger than the Styrofoam.
Styrofoam, Thicker Styrofoam works better.
I think that it just needs to be wool.
