Cholorophyll is the green pigment in plants responsible for capturing energy from the light and turning the energy into chemical energy in the chemical bonds of sugar the plant makes. There are two types of chlorophyll, each responsible for a different part of the color spectrum.
The two cycles of photosynthesis are the light and dark cycles. In the light cycle, cholorphyll takes the energy from the light. In the dark cycle (which could happen when there is light), the energy the cholorphyll took is used to make sugar, which is food for the plants.
