Default Opossum Help!

My neice (4th grader) wants to do a science fair project on Opossums. I may be making this harder than what it has to be; I wasn't sure what angle she should approach this from. She's suppose to have the purpose, hypothesis, etc but it just seems to me to be more indepth than what she's thinking. Can anyone please give me some advise?

Thanks!

what does she want to do? look at the behavior of them? is she going to research them or do you live in a place where you can watch them?

Question To Rachealroxursox2

She wants to find out how opossums came to North America & where they originated from but I think this is more of a topic for a (book) report. I was thinking maybe something along the lines of behavior or maybe appearance traits and how they've changed over the years.?????

Lightbulb opossums

okay, she may be able to do the report because it can be classified as a science research project but she would have to ask her teacher. kaweahoaks.com/html/opossum.htm

here are some links to help you finding info, the best way though is to actually observe them yourself. The best thing to do is to watch them throughout a period of 4+ days, this way you can see what they do when its colder, or raining etc. Also she will want to watch the same type of opossums preferably the same group of them. Even if she does this she will still need to do some research for best results

Question Is is an Experiment or a Research Project??

I truly depends if her teacher is expecting an experiment, i.e. scientific method, or a scientific research report. I would talk to your niece's teacher to see what she would rather have, and make sure to ask her for topic suggestions having to do with opposoms. From what I can tell, you are perfectly capable of assisting your neice with her science project/experiment. After talking to the teacher, go with your gut feeling on what would be the most appropreitte topic, while making sure to keep in mind your neices ideas. Good job and HAPPY LEARNING! - BB
