Red face Please tell me how a refrigerator works!

How does it cool food? Please give a simple explaination. Big words tend to confuse me. T_T

Talking Hmm,

I don't know a lot about electronics, but I would guess that it uses some kind of very cold air to keep the food cold. That is just what I am guessing.

well, thanx i suppose but i kinda figured that the air inside would be cold. But have you noticed that the back of it is warm?

Default Maybe

Maybe the heat is coming from the electricity moving through the refrigerator to keep the foods cold. I am sorry, but I am not very good with technology.

Default Science

Is this for a science experiment for school? Also, does your school have a technology education class? If so, ask the teacher for help with it.

Hi.

Before I can explain how basically a refrigerator works, you have to understand the following:

To cool a body equals to remove the heat out of the body. This will take place by the cero law of thermodynamics (cero because when scientist figure out this law there was already the first law of thermodynamics) : the temperature will follow (direction) form a higher level to a lower level. This means that the heat of a juicy steak inside a restaurant will drop down because is going to a lower level (restaurant ambient temperature) until equally balance.

Hope that I did not confuse you.

How does a refrigerator works. It very simple.
You have four basic components in a refrigerator. All connected in a way so they can form a cycle in the following order:

1. Compressor
2. Condenser
3. Valve
4. Evaporator

These components do not do all the job in cooling a closed space, you have to have a medium to take the heat out of he bodies and the throw it out of the refrigerator, that is, the refrigerant (gas).

The refrigerant enters the compressor to gain pressure (heats up a little bit) and then goes to the condenser, where the refrigerant gets rid of all the heat he carries to the surroundings (exterior of the refrigerator), the refrigerant goes to a valve where it will drop its temperature lower than the inside temperature of the refrigerator and then passes to the evaporator where the refrigerant will take out the heat of the bodies inside the refrigerator. End of cycle.

Hope this will help
