what is the soil? It depends on where you get the soil, the organic material in the soil...etc.

I don't think this is too difficult. But you can't possibly try to get soil and examine every single substance in the soil. however, you can test the pH levels of the soil.

One proposal is you go around different varied places and collect soil. Note the environment around the soil. Is it shady? Sunny? Is there a lot of vegetation? Or is the ground barren? Then you can test the different qualities of the soil. Such as the color, you can see. You can definitely test pH. Just add water into the soil, mix it well, and use pH paper. (get pH paper from your school. Your teacher/lab technician would supposively able to lend you some.)

I can't think of anything else you can test in the soil, but I'm pretty sure there are others. Try going online and see what soil tests there are.

Good luck!
