Question Why Don't They

I'm looking for an answer as well as an experiment to do to the question, "Why don't the leaves of a maple tree, let's say, in Florida change color like the leaves in New York"? I've found information as to why leaves do change color, but I haven't found anything as to why that doesn't pertain to Florida, where leaves go from green to brown, skipping any color change in-between. Is there an experiment a 4th grader can do with this? Thanks for your help.
