Thumbs up

although dreamer seems to have covered the basics of your question, here are a few additions. onion root tip cells undergo rapid cell division for growth (meristem) while the cells behind do undergo division but at a slower pace.

the difference between mitosis and meiosis is that:

1) chromosome no. is halved in meiosis so it is reductional division for reproductive cells while mitosis is equational division

2) meiosis allows exchange of genetic material (synapsis) so the daughter cells have characters from both the parent cells while in mitosis the daughter cell is an exact copy of the parent cell.

these are the basic difference. others include no. of daughter cells, region of division etc.

p.s. although i'm really late in my reply for you, maybe others wit a similar question can go through this post for help

The Newtons and friends were taking tea
Beneath the boughs of an apple tree,
When a falling fruit landed on the
Head of the head of the family.
Mrs. Newton cried, 'Well deary me!
That could've caused an injury'.
But clever Isaac alone could see,
The situation's true gravity.
