Default Help heating element!!!

Hello,

I'm trying to make a heating element that can be dipped into a liquid and bring the temperature to about 375F or 190C as part of my project. The design I have so far is a some form of heating element inside of a test tube that will heat the glass of the test tube to the above temperatures. I also have a on/off switch cabinet lighting power cord which I would like to use to power the heating element. I think that I will need some sort of linear taper potentiometer to adjust the temperature of the heating element and possibly nichrome wire to make the heating element. But, I am very confused as how to hook up the power cord to the potentiometer and then to the nichrome wire and then fit that inside of the test tube. Help please!!!!!

Thanks...
