Bio Bottle - Ecosystems

I'm doing a project on ecosystems. We have two 2-liter bottles and seal them together. The top half is terrestrial, and the bottom half is aquatic. This experiment will last for about 2 weeks, and nothing can die during that time. (The top half of the terrestrial bottle is cut, so air can move about?) We also have to have at least two trophic levels (sadly does not include decomposers for this lab).
I know that I should get water from ponds or freshwater lakes (because tap water contains chemicals that KILLS life), and have some soil, some grass, and maybe worms. What else can you recommend that will survive during 2 weeks' time that won't die?
Thank you!!

hmm...i luv your project idea! you could also try adding sodium bicarb to the water so tht all your plants and fish get carbn dioxide in sufficient amounts. be sure to place it in sunlight to allow photosynthesis. be sure to put in marine plants in the water so that the fish get oxygen to respire.

all the best!

Good ideas, Sciencefreak. Don't put too much sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), or the fish could die.

Put it in sunlight for maybe half of a day for the plants, if they aren't aquatic.

Yes, the air can move around, but make sure there are holes somewhere.

Best of luck!

:)
