unpolluting water!
you will need:
"polluted" water
graduated cylinder
250mL beakers (4)
2 plastic spoons
small nail
8 oz plastic-foam cups (2)
2 pieces of filter paper
washed fine sand
metric ruler
washed active charcoal
rubber and

PROCEDURE part A: untreated water

1. measure 100mL of "polluted" water into a graduated cylinder. Shake the bottle of water before you pour so your sample will include all the impurities

2. por the contents of the graduatd cylinder into one of the beakers.

Part B: Settling in

If the suspension is left standing the suspended particles will settle to the top or bottom. you shuld see a layer of oil at the top.

4. Separate the oil by carefully puoring the oil into another beaker. You can use a plastic spoon to get the last bit of oil from the water.

Part C: Filtration
Cloudy water can be a sigh of particles still in suspension.

5. Make a filter as follows:
A. Use the nail to poke 5 to 10 small holes in the bottom of one of the cups.
B. Cut a circle of filter paper to fit inside the bottom of the cup.
C. Fill the cup to 2 cm below the rim with wet sand. Pack the sand tightly
D. Set the cup inside a empty beaker.

6. Pour the polluted water on top of the sand, and let it filter through.

Part D: Separating Solutions

7. Place active charcoal about 3 cm deep in the unused cup. Pour the water collected from the sand filtration into the cup, and stir for a minute with a spoon.

8. Place a piece of filter paper over the top of the cup and fasten with a rubber band. With the paper securely in place pour the water through the filter paper and back into a clean beaker.

P.S. Favorite project

well japanese just use fermented sticky beans that they usually eat.
they ferment the beans and they drop some in the polluted water then the amoeba or other small organisms will show up and be separated from the water.:)

If I would have known that I wouldn't had to go through that long old process
thanks for the info
