Help w/Science Project

Hello All,

I am in desperate need of help with a Science Project that I have do on:
Which Cactus absorbs more water within 2 weeks?
I have no clue on where to start. Please if someone could give some ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, I'm in the 4th Grade. Tks....:)

:p well this is a hard topic because you cant goto the desert and watch..................well find a reliable source for each cactus and see how much water they absorb. If it says it absorbs 2 gallons every 2 days convert it to 1 gallons a day or to 7 gallons a week or what you need 14gallons and compare the two.:p

Thanks for the idea. Me and my mom purchased two cacti last night from Walmart Garden Center. So I will be using the Pincushion Cactus and Golden Barrel Cactus in my experiment. But I still don't understand how I will determine which one will absorb more water, because they are both in the same flower pot along with another type of Barrel Cactus. And they also have those pricky things on them. And I don't know how and where to cut them after the two weeks, because of the pricks. Please give me a suggestion if you have any. Thanks alot for your help!!

Well, you could do research or you could wait 2 weeks and cut the cacti at the top and pour the water into a graduated cylinder.
P.S. when is this due?

Ok, but how would I cut them being they have those spikes on them. The project is due April 5th. Would you be able to help me out? I wish I knew someone that actually did this project before. This is so boring and I am willing for any and all help at whatever cost right now. Again thanks for your advice and help. I really appreciate it.
