Testing for lead acetate in hair dyes

I am a 10th grade student who is required to do a science fair project, and this topic seemed interesting to me. However, I do have a few questions.

1. There are different parts to a hair dyeing kit, so which chemical would I test for lead acetate? The dye itself?
2. Would a simple lead test kit work for this project?
3. What would the control be?
4. Is this topic still relevant today?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. I accidentally posted this under the K-5 chemistry section. Sorry!!:embarassed:
