O.K. I'M IN 9TH GRADE AT A PRIVATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, AND I HAVE NEVER DONE A SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT BEFORE. i'M REALLY BAD AT THINKING OF IDEAS. I DON'T WON'T A CHEESY 6TH GRADER PROJECT LIKE A CUPA DIRT OR SOMETHIN LIKE THAT. i NEED SOMETHING THAT IS EASY TO DO UNDESTAND THAT SOUNDS VERY INTELLIGENT AND INTERESTING!!:confused:

tell me if this idea is good and what I can do to make it exciting for the judges in a science competition; TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES ON DUCT TAPE STRENGTH.

Well I think you should do it on something you think is interesting in science. Just because you have never done a science project doesn't mean you don't know how.

This experiment is good, but the main problem is, how would you measure duct tape strength? How about the effect of temperature on something else rather than duct tape strength. Try something more measurable. But if you can find a way to measure duct tape strength, by all means, do so. But doing an experiment like this might not unveil any fascinating results, since temperature might not have anything to do with duct tape strength. So perhaps it's best to try effect of temp on something else.

Yes, it could, through electrolysis. (Running electrcity through water.)

Effect of temperature on volume.
Effect of temperature on elasticity of ball.
Effect of color on heat absorption.

These projects are fairly easy to do, but involve research and understanding of physics.

To add to what Dreamerofeternity said about doing a project that examines the effect of temperature on something that's measurable/quantifiable - a good place to start would be think of what you might have previously observed/noticed - eg. you've seen baloons expand and burst when placed in the hot sun. You might have seen your a friend's mobile phone screen go wonky when placed in the glove compartment of a car parked out in the open in summer. Maybe you've noticed the phone malfunction in extremely cold weather - and you might have wondered whether it was the screen or the electronics that failed.

It could be anything really - what' I'm trying to say is that science projects become that little bit more meaningful, when they address questions that you already have in your own mind. Think hard enough, and you'll find a project that involves one or two things that you've always wondered about... :)
