Help with the Eye

Hello. My 9-year-old, third-grade son wants to do his science fair project on the eye. However, he wants it to be "What is scleritis?"
We spent the past week learning the parts of the eye and how it works. Next, we are going to read and learn about scleritis.
Does anybody have any suggestions for a project? I think he will be okay as far as the report goes, but besides purchasing a model of the eye, I don't know what else he can do.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank in advance. :)

This is An Awfully Hard Project, Your Son Must Be Really Bright!

I want to say that this is a really good project, however one thing is that a project need to TEST something (that what my 4-8th grade science teacher always tells me), so it is a really good project, but if you have talked to your son's science teacher about it, then i'm sure he will do pretty well.

P.S. If your son is really interested in the eye, and God forbid the primary porject does not goes successfully, trying doing it on the eye's response to color and texture. For example, you can do it on how does the eye knows what color or texture you are seeing. Just a suggestion and i really hope that experiment comes out great, good luck!!

Thank you for replying. I totally agree with you. We did try to get him to change his project to something else, still the eye, but something that can be demonstrated easier than a disease of the eye. But he is nine, and really wants to keep it as is with scleritis. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to demonstrate this. I think he'll end up using a lot of pictures.

Boy, I wish I had found this site two weeks ago. I feel like such a dummy for not going to his school and asking his teacher for advice and assistance with choosing a different project. But I willl still use your advice and talk to her now, its never too late to get help.

ps...I guess in third grade, it is not enforced to choose a subject that can be tested.

Thanks again.
